Remote Work Spotlight: Online Video Editor

I’m excited for the first installment of my newest blog series where I’ll profile a remote worker. I thought this would be helpful for those of us who want to hear about other remote workers’ experiences, and perhaps give more perspective on what it’ll be like when you land your own opportunity.

Today, we’ll meet Giovanni, a talented online video editor and virtual assistant 🙂

33 years old.

Remote Occupation?

Video Editor / VA

What did you do before working from home?

IT Specialist/ Network Administrator / Software Maintenance

Why did you start working from home?

To avoid toxic people, especially the co-workers who like to act like my boss. I think not being in an office reduces the possible distractions you get from co-workers.

How long have you been working from home?

6 months.

What are your favorite things about working from home?

Hassle-free and you don’t have to commute, or sit in everyday traffic. Working outside the home up a lot of time, especially if you have a long commute and not to mention the job-related travel expenses. Cutting down on my daily commute has put more money back in my pocket.

What are your least favorite things about working from home?

None so far.

How has working from home improved your life?

It’s improved my relationship as a husband to my wife because we have more bonding time, and save financially from commuting. Also, working from home has provided me the opportunity to achieve optimal work-life balance. Although it is possible to gain balance commuting to an office every day, it’s not a patch on working from home.

What’s some advice you’d give to anyone looking to start working from home?

Time management is the key for success in working from home.

Would you ever go back to a traditional job?

No. There is something different about dealing with stressful situations while working in your room in pajamas. I am able to more calmly assess situations and create solutions that might otherwise be handled less skillfully.

Thanks for sharing, Gio. I certainly can relate to your sentiments about office culture and commuting!

Now, I want to hear from you all. Leave a comment, below, if you care to share your experience working remotely, and you may be the next Spotlight Profile!

Talk soon,

Delilah ??
